Formed in April 2006 and based in Bournemouth, England, Dorset Troopers are an all voluntary non-profit costume group. We use Star Wars film costumes to raise awareness and monies for various charity groups.
Our main charity for 2018 is Julia’s House Children’s Hospice, providing practical and emotional support for children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions and their families across Dorset and Wiltshire.
Dorset Troopers is still run by our founders, Terry and Debbie Welch. All our members are volunteers who give up their own time to troop and spend their own money on the screen-accurate armour and costumes we wear. Each of our members are picked and treated as people and an integral part of the group; not just a number and suit.
Not all our members wear armour – crew are a vital part of every appearance. New members always start out as “spotters” to learn the ropes before trooping as characters.
If you’re interested in joining Dorset Troopers please get in touch through our contact form. Please note that all members must be over 18 due to insurance reasons.
